This website is presented for public education by the GP Lens Institute (GPLI), the educational arm of the Contact Lens Manufacturers Association (CLMA).

Founded in 1985, GPLI provides education to consumers and eye care practitioners to enable them to fully benefit from the many advantages of GP contact lenses. GPLI supports eye doctors, other contact lens practitioners and optometry students with workshop programs, online symposia and an array of educational materials.
Dr. Edward Bennett, Executive Director

GPLI's efforts are led by its Executive Director, Edward Bennett, OD, MSEd. Dr. Bennett is an Associate Professor of Optometry and Co-Chief, Contact Lens Service at the University of Missouri St. Louis, College of Optometry.
Dr. Bennett has authored and/or reviewed all of the educational content on this website.
Dr. Bennett is recognized globally as a contact lens expert. He is actively involved in the clinical investigation of contact lens designs, materials and care regimens. During the past 20 years he and his colleagues have performed more than 100 contact lens research studies. He has authored or edited eight contact lens texts and two national board examination review books, and is a frequent speaker at professional meetings.
About the Contact Lens Manufacturers Association

Organized in 1961, the CLMA is a professional association of laboratories, as well as material, solution and equipment manufacturers in the United States and abroad.
The mission of the CLMA is to increase awareness and utilization of custom-manufactured contact lenses. The association has built a solid record of success in its work to strengthen its members' impact on the shaping of vital national policies, laws and regulations that affect the contact lens industry. CLMA draws its strength and effectiveness from the very active direct participation of each of its member companies and from a small but thoroughly professional staff.
The objectives of the CLMA are to:
- Educate eye care professionals, the public and the industry about contact lens technology, features and benefits.
- Initiate and support legislation beneficial to CLMA membership, practitioners and patients.
- Sponsor and support research and development of quality contact lens materials.
- Suggest and enforce industry manufacturing standards.
- Participate in seminars, conferences and congresses dealing with eye health care.
- Promote the contact lens industry.
